MP3 players
Atleast I can say there are few things that a person needs to check before purchasing a MP3 player..
- Storage type
Do you need to have tons of songs to carry with you everyday or you just listen to music while travelling in the bus or tube train?. How long you use it is the main factor I feel. If you really are a music buff who listens to the RAP in you toilet then go for a hard disk based MP3 player. (Eg:Ipod, Creative, Iriver). Other wise you can opt for a Flash based player. Now a days you can get a good flash based player quite cheap. My personnel recommendation dont go for anything less than 512 MB..
- Brand
I dont have to tell you whats the reason behind Ipod success.. There may be lot of things which contributed to it but I can say the branding of Apple played a good role as well.. If you really wanna look 'cool' I guess the choice is Ipod.. But think over it..
- Battery
I feel this is the most important one. If you travel longer hours or drive for hours or prefer to have a player for days then you shall look for the bettery life more than 18 hours. Traditional flash players work more than the Hard disk based players. But you need to asses it on your own..
Here another point to remember; weather the betteries are removable or not. This will come handy if you are going on a long trip. so remember the recharge time, battery life, removable or nonremovable; (if there is a USB recharge type its better)
- Headphones/earphones
One of the earphone came with a popular brand flash based player is only 4 ft long. :) Look for a good headphones if you tend to use it for longer hours..in any case dont go for any piece with less than 80dB SNR & the powet atleast 10mW..
- Music Formats
Which formats does the MP3 players support. Is it only MP3 or does it support wma, aac & any other..
- FM tuner & any other addons
Look for FM tuner & Recorder if you want to listen to
Added tothat please look for the software support as well
Enjoy the MP3 player..:)

Now you can see two text boxes. First one contains our translated message "La mama de Aishwarya es muy agradable". Copy this to the bottom text box and again do a translation from "Spanish to English"...

Bra wars between China EU
In June, the European Union (EU) imposed quotas on cheap Chinese imports into Europe to protect its textile producers. But it has resulted in tonnes of Chinese-made sweaters, pants, bras and other garments piling up at European ports.
Currently, there are 48 million sweaters, 17 million pairs of men’s trousers, three million bras and four million T-shirts stranded in ports and warehouses, reported the BBC.
The official China Daily newspaper said in an editorial yesterday that the flawed agreement should serve as a lesson to the EU that protectionist steps, which seem politically correct in the short term, would be damaging to consumers and companies in the long run.

Google Talk
Worth all the waiting.. Google launched its IM application Google Talk. The first look was "quite okie".. It's based on the open Jabber protocol with VoIP thrown for good measure as well..If you ask me about the best part I liked about Talk is its VoIP.. Its a full fledged client with very High quality features.. Another 'plus' point is "No Ads" on its features..
If we go to a bit detail, the download is quite small compared to other IM's clints. Its about 0.9 MB size which can download in less than a minute using most of the internet connections..
And the configuration ? nothing much do to...most of the settings work by default..No need to check the proxy connections and all....its fine..
Its fully integrated with Gmail (Similar to MSN & Yahoo)..and there will be a popup window on the right hand side bottom when the user gets a mail...
Most of the features are quite common...
Now I am quite curious to see how this turns out.. How many people will switch to google now from MSN & Yahoo.. (I still stick to MSN because most of my old time contacts are still using it for the last 6 years)..
May be the youngsters and students will be the first to pick it up.. then comes the masses..
Want to try it: You can download @ www.google.com/talk

"To make myself beautiful," said his mother, who then began removing the cream with a tissue.

HR Policy
"We are aiming to be the No.1 Internet retailer, so the No.1 mountain in Japan is very suitable," said Yoshifumi Tsunada, head of public relations for Image Co, the parent company of ImageNet Co.
Imagine if this is the same policy for any of our own companies in Singapore...People need to climb Bukit Timah to attend the interview..
I think most of our guys got good experience climbing down greater distances. I always see the tired faces during the Fire Exercises @ Suntec or any of the high rise buildings...Donno about climbing up..n How about India or Nepal..People may need to climb Mt.Everest or Mr.K2...(But no return..).Lucky I am not asked to do that any where...

Office. Manager. Work. Loyelty
One day, one scientist came to his boss and told him - Sir, I have promised to my children that I will take them to the exhibition going on in our township. So I want to leave the office at 5 30 pm. His boss replied - O K, You are permitted to leave the office early today.
The Scientist started working. He continued his work after lunch. As usual he got involved to such an extent that he looked at his watch when he felt he was close to completion. The time was 8.30 p.m suddenly he remembered of the promise he had given to his children. He looked for his boss, He was not there. Having told him in the morning itself, he closed everything and left for home. Deep within himself, he was feeling guilty for having disappointed his children.
He reached home. Children were not there. His wife alone was sitting in the hall and reading magazines. The situation was explosive, any talk would boomerang on him.
His wife asked him - Would you like to have coffee or shall I straight away serve dinner if you are hungry. The man replied - If you would like to have coffee, I too will have but what about Children???
Wife replied- You don't know - Your manager came at 5 15 p.m and has taken the children to the exhibition.
What had really happened was The boss who granted him permission was observing him working seriously at 5.00 p.m.
He thought to himself, this person will not leave the work, but if he has promised his children they should enjoy the visit to exhibition. So he took the lead in taking them to exhibition The boss does not have to do it every time.
But once it is done, loyalty is established. That is why all the scientists at Thumba continued to work under their boss even though the stress was tremendous. By the way , can you hazard a guess as to who the boss was?
He was A P J Abdul Kalam.
This is what makes him soo speacial and darling of the nation...This is the major diff between any other leader in India and Abdul Kalam..Long Live Mr. President.
We love you.....
Another record from Singapore
She had waited for 8 hours, 43 minutes and 37 seconds before she got onto her bus. Here is an account from her on that day, 22nd September 2003:"Aiyoh, SBS bus always like that one leh, no come ah, all no come! One come, three, four come leh. Der weather hot mah, so I sit under shelter at the bus-stop lor. The stupid bus hor, all air-con pecah one. Becos I tak boleh tahan the heat, so I don't wan’ to take the first bus lor. Den I wait and wait hor, the aircon bus never come leh. But den hor, got like 2 non-aircon bus pass by mah, den I very angry lor, so I call SBS complain lah. Eventually when the aircon bus got come lor, but three of them together come. SBSservice lagi lousy, pay so much busfare but still got so many non-aircon feeder bus one."
Mrs Tan Gu Gu is also the proud achiever and record holder of waiting for the longest time to get a Hello Kitty from the local MacDonald's.
Who said Singaporians lack records..
Mdm Boh Eng, his mother, a widow, told us that her boy picked up the habit when she was three while she was busy working."When I was young, my friend say press 995 and 999 got funny tones, so I try, lor, den hor, very funny leh, they ask me who I am, where I am living, like that lor,"
Mr Guey informed our reporters."The telephone operators now all know my name sia. So I called them almost every minute, lor. They quite friendly, always ask my name, where I am," Mr Guey Bo Liao told us.
MSG Thia Dian Wei, a telephone operator supervisor for Civil Defence told us that he had been receiving unneccessary calls made by Mr Guey Bo Liao since 1994."I was a corporal back then when Mr Guey called. I can still remember our conversation. He said he was bored so he call us lor. At that time, I was pissed with him, but now after so many years, I'm kind of numb to his prank calls. In fact, we had a system installed toredirect him to our voice message machine. So he thinks it's quite amusing that it's always the same operator saying the same things," said MSG Thia Dian Wei.
Although the police had confirmed with us that Mr Guey Bo Liao had called and also given us the statistics, they told us that they will not make any comments and will give us a report on the incident.
On second place for the most number of emergency calls was made by Mr Jin Kia See who made a total of 4,609,218 emergency calls to Hospitals, 995, Civil Defence, Fire Stations, Police Stations, 999, SAF.

Fuel less flight
Neither a blimp, nor a glider, nor a fuel-propelled airplane, a new aircraft promises to translate gravitational attraction into both lift and forward motion, capture wind energy with a radical new wind turbine, and usher in the era of fuelless flight. In the gravityplane, highly compressed air is the fuel providing all the plane's energy needs not met by gravity. Thus not only does the gravityplane fly through the air like a conventional plane, it also gulps in and captures huge volumes of the air. The plane will use high-pressure compressed air to drive its internal system of pumps and pipes, generate electricity, and power two outboard turbines (used for vertical propulsion at takeoff and landing and controlling the plane's direction).

Now, call US & Canada at Rs 3/minute
Mumbai - In A fresh round of price cuts, Airtel, the mobile brand of Bharti Tele-Ventures (BTVL), has slashed ISD rates to Rs 3 per minute from the current levels of Rs 15 per minute for new subscribers.
These rates are applicable for ISD calls to USA and Canada only and will be available to both new post-paid and pre-paid subscribers. The new rates are for Mumbai subscribers only.
With this price drop, Airtel probably hopes to attract new subscribers. Price has ceased to be a differentiator as rival telcos soon match the new rates.
With this rate, Airtel barely covers the access deficit charge (ADC) of Rs 2.50. The ADC is a charge payable to public sector telcos like Bharat Sanchar Nigam primarily so as to help them cover losses incurred in providing subsidised calls to rural areas. Airtel is the fourth largest mobile operator in Mumbai with a subscriber base of over 8 lakh.
Source: Economic Times.
Wish I could have used these kind of schemes when I was there.. Still I remember the days where it used to cost more than Rs.100/min to make ISD calls.. :(

I really dont know what these bastards are trying to achive by killing innocent people..Atleast the governments should wake up now and take whatever necessary actions to control the Home grown millitants.. All the while they never felt the pain when these so called "Mujahedin" organizations killing innocent people in their neighbouring countries.. They are so short sighted to encourage the radical millitants to take part in brutal killings on the name of GOD... Hope Bangla PM will take the necessary action immeditely..

Resumes.
1. The size of the resume
Just a couple of days back I received a resume which is just less than 11 pages. The sender happens to be one my friends brother requesting me to have a look at the resume and comment on it...Really donno what to do...The worst thing is he is having only 1 year experience. In order to "show" that he is quite capable of doing many things he tried to squeeze all the things on the earth.. This is one of the major mistake people do (Even I did the same thing. It was pointed out by my cousin Sarath Chandra who just told me that with this resume I cant even get a call)
Just keep it SIMPLE.. May be the idle size is about "2" pages. If you are really a great achiever then may be an additional page to explain about it..
2. Focusing on applicant rather than the requirements.
One important thing and (If u just think for a while you tend to agree) the stupid mistake is "Talking about ourselves; No company or no one wants to contribute to your dreams and hopes. There is a problem; that's why they are hiring you. Not because you want to "Excel in Information Technology Filed"; or "Want a challenging career in marketing filed"; "want to work with a MNC like your esteemed organization(Yes. Our HR team burst in to laughs when they saw this resume);
Avoid all these silly "summary's or objectives". Any employer just ask a single question " What you can do for me". Try to answer this question and put it in the resume .
3. Focusing on the results you have achieved instead of boasting what you are responsible for
Many resumes claim that the person successfully managed "10 people" ;responsible for maintains the "Data Center"; or "responsible for all the network". No body is interested what you were doing. But they are interested in what you have achieved.
Some thing like "Worked with 10 people to deliver the Product in less than the targeted date & with 10% less budget"; or maintained the data center with 99.99% uptime; etc....
4. irrelevant details
Plz friends...The guys up there are not interested weather your father is a farmer or doctor( Unless he is a CEO of a Public Sector company which will be giving a contract to this employer)..Some of the resumes even carrys what is your star sign or height(unless if its some security job) or bloodgroup.
My last company received a resume where the candidate mentioned under Extra Qualifications(He applied for a Cust Care Officer) is "Can surf Internet; My fav websites" Yahoo, MSN.
Just dont put any thing which is not relevant to the job. This can save the valuable space on the resume.
5. Content order ,Spelling mistakes or grammar mistakes
Most people start the resume in chronological order which is appropriate. But the mistake people make is they put it in the opposite direction. For example if a person starts working in 2000 then switched to another company in 2002 n then another change in 2005, it should be from the recent to the prev ones. Not like 2000 , then 2002 and 2005.
Every one knows how stupid if the resume contains full of typos or grammar mistakes. Regular speak we tend to give room for convenience but when we are applying for a job just be cautious.
Best of luck

Random thoughts
are too big for his bed, nothing seems to fit. Those raindrops are
falling on my head, they keep falling.
So I just did me some talking to the sun. And I said I didn't like the
way, he got things done... sleeping on the job... those raindrops are
falling on my head, they keep falling.
But there's one thing I know: The blues they send to meet me won't
defeat me. It won't be long till happiness sleps up to greet me.
Raindrops keep falling on my head but that doesn't mean my eyes will
soon be turning red. Crying's not for me cause I'm never gonna stop
the rain by complaining. Because I'm free. Nothing's worrying
me.
*****************************************************************
Really this morning I was just walking to office when the rain started...I was just walking without bothering about it..I do carry an umbrella (Singapore is quite unpredictable) but not really wanted to open it...a bit lazy and a bit enjoying the rain at the same time...
There was a song by Chris De Burgh "Crying in the rain"...I used to hear the song many times..Not because of something else(this explanation is for you tanveer) but the way it's written touched me...But not any more...These songs or melodies cant move me now a days..may be is it I am more matured emotionally or I am just numb to all these things ..donno but life is much better these days...Its tough;stressfull; routine;
But I am enjoying every bit of it to the fullest...Having a really great time...may be the saying my the great people is true...everything is in your mind....
EI Consortium's Technical Report on Training and Developing Emotional Intelligence in the Workplace
This is really worth reading...I did experienced the lack of EI @ most of the offices I am working with...Many meetings start with quite objective n later turn into subjective n end up being emotionally charge and with lot of fretting n fuming...
Most of the "Wannabe managers" must be very good at dealing the Emotional Issues @ work places...A good start may be this...
National Vulnerability Database
The rate of vulnerabilities found at the moment is on an average of 8 vulnerabilities / Day....
But one thing to observe is these are the "known" or "found" ones..How about unknown which may surface at any time in the future or the so called "feature set"...
Anyway this is rather good news for the security professionals around the globe ;) they can say their job security is getting more solid..

Faith. Thats whae keeps the relation between God and US

An atheist professor of philosophy speaks to his class on the problem science has with God, the Almighty. He asks one of his students to stand and.....
Prof: So you believe in God?
Student : Absolutely, sir.
Prof: Is God good?
Student : Sure.
Prof: Is God all-powerful?
Student : Yes.
Prof: My brother died of cancer even though he prayed to God to heal him. Most of us would attempt to help others who are ill. But God didn't. How is this God good then? Hmm? (Student is silent.)
Prof: You can't answer, can you? Let's start again, young fella. Is God good?
Students :Yes. Prof: Is Satan good?
Students : No.
Prof: Where does Satan come from?
Student : From...God...
Prof: That's right. Tell me son, is there evil in this world?
Student : Yes.
Prof: Evil is everywhere, isn't it? And God did make everything. Correct?
Student : Yes.
Prof: So who created evil? (Student does not answer.)
Prof: Is there sickness? Immorality? Hatred? Ugliness? All these terrible things exist in the world, don't they? Student :Yes, sir.
Prof: So, who created them? (Student has no answer.)
Prof: Science says you have 5 senses you use to identify and observe the world around you. Tell me, son...Have you ever seen God?
Student: No, sir.
Prof: Tell us if you have ever heard your God?
Student : No , sir.
Prof: Have you ever felt your God, tasted your God, smelt your God? Have you ever had any sensory perception of God for that matter?
Student : No, sir. I'm afraid I haven't.
Prof: Yet you still believe in Him?
Student : Yes.
Prof: According to empirical, testable, demonstrable protocol, science says your GOD doesn't exist. What do you say to that, son?
Student : Nothing. I only have my faith.
Prof: Yes. Faith. And that is the problem science has.
Student : Professor, is there such a thing as heat?
Prof: Yes.
Student : And is there such a thing as cold?
Prof: Yes.
Student : No sir. There isn't The lecture theatre becomes very quiet with this turn of events.)
Student : Sir, you can have lots of heat, even more heat, superheat, megaheat, white heat, a little heat or no heat. But we don't have anything called cold. We can hit 458 degrees below zero which is no heat, but we can't go any further after that. There is no such thing as cold. Cold is only a word we use to describe the absence of heat. We cannot measure cold. Heat is energy. Cold is not the opposite of heat, sir, just the absence of it. There is pin-drop silence in the lecture theatre.)
Student : What about darkness,
Professor? Is there such a thing as darkness?
Prof: Yes. What is night if there isn't darkness?
Student : You're wrong again, sir. Darkness is the absence of something. You can have low light, normal light, bright light, flashing light....But if you have no light constantly, you have nothing and it's called darkness, isn't it? In reality, darkness isn't. If it were you would be able to make darkness, darker, wouldn't you?
Prof: So what is the point you are making, young man?
Student : Sir, my point is your philosophical premise is flawed.
Prof: Flawed? Can you explain how?
Student : Sir, you are working on the premise of duality. You argue there is life and then there is death, a good God and a bad God. You are viewing the concept of God as something finite, something we can measure. Sir, science can't even explain a thought. It uses electricity and magnetism, but has never seen, much less fully understood either one. To view death as the opposite of life is to be ignorant of the fact that death cannot exist as a substantive thing. Death is not the opposite of life: just the absence of it. Now tell me, Professor. Do you teach your students that they evolved from a monkey?
Prof: If you are referring to the natural evolutionary process, yes, of course, I do.
Student : Have you ever observed evolution with your own eyes, sir? (The Professor shakes his head with a smile, beginning to realize where the argument is going.)
Student : Since no one has ever observed the process of evolution at work and cannot even prove that this process is an on-going endeavour, are you not teaching your opinion, sir? Are you not a scientist but a preacher? (The class is in uproar.)
Student : Is there anyone in the class who has ever seen the Professor's brain? (The class breaks out into laughter.)
Student : Is there anyone here who has ever heard the Professor's brain, felt it, touched or smelt it?.....No one appears to have done so. So, according to the established rules of empirical, stable, demonstrable protocol, science says that you have no brain, sir. With all due respect, sir, how do we then trust your lectures, sir? The room is silent.
The professor stares at the student, his face unfathomable.
Prof: I guess you'll have to take them on faith, son.
Student : That is it sir.. The link between man & god is FAITH. That is all that keeps things moving & alive.
1 in 25 children UK fathers are raising are not their own
British researchers say genetic testing is informing about 4 percent of fathers that a child they are raising is not their own.
But one thing came to my stupid mind lately..If everyone realizes that the "kid" they are raising is not theirs, I cant really imagine the implications. No time all the relations will get spoiled n there wont be any place for Trust...The male will be living with a sense of rejection n betrayal..huhh...cant imagine really...There is some thing I saw in the same article.
"New knowledge means new power, but not necessarily the power to use it correctly,"
I dont know weather finding who is the real father is right or wrong. But for me its more like even if you know that its a lie some times living with a lie is much more happier than knowing the truth...

So now sitting and working what kind of strategy I do have to elevate my comapny..First I need to work on my own strategy to elevate my self and get more benefits..;D
Customer focus...yeah i do have focus but I cant see any customer there...

Khar beggar earns Rs 1,000 per day
Begging is a profitable venture in Mumbai, according to a survey carried out recently by the Social Development Centre with the help of Dr Chandrakant Puri, assistant director, Distance Education, SNDT.
Of the one lakh beggars in Mumbai, Sambhaji Kale is one of the richest, the survey has identified.
“The Kales do not like to admit they are beggars. That goes for most beggars. They like to think they earn their living working,” said Karande.
The Kales are quite a known family in and around Khar. Letters and other correspondence from the banks reaches them properly even though they hardly have an address. “That is because we have a clean reputation and never get into trouble with police,” said Sambhaji.
Karande is trying to get Kale’s children into a school that he is running primarily for beggar children at Khar. “We need to educate them, but it is a difficult task because the Kale couple hardly begs these days.
They depend on their children to get in the money,” said Karande.

No wonder ..Where people fight to get recognition as Backward Classes so they can have reservations, and where people do strikes to get more reservations or feel proud to say that they belongs to lower classes ; Where more than 60% of public sector jobs and University seats goes to non-merit students(Reservations).; Where the financial benefit doesnt help you a Poor student but a rich student from a different category; Where the Film heros often can get out without any punishment even if they kill people or national animals; Where politicians even not bothered to stand up while singing national song;
Still Mera Bharat mahan....

So beautiful
Wondering if the world would be so beautiful,
If I had not looked into your eyes,
How did you know that I've been waiting?
I never knew the world would be so beautiful at all;
I'm spending all the days, dreaming of the nights we've had,
I never knew that love would be a miracle,
When I think of all the ones before,
But now that I've found you I am flying,
I never knew that love would be so beautiful to me,
I never knew that love would be so beautiful to me;
And when we dance to the rhythm that is burning like a flame,
And when you touch me I can hardly move you take my breath away,
You give me all that I want to feel when we become as one,
And then you take me to the heaven of your heart;
Did nobody ever tell you, you're the best thing that has ever been;
Ah... you... ah... so beautiful... ah... so beautiful...
I'm standing here tonight, thinking of the time we'll have,
I never knew that you would be so beautiful,
From the day you came into my life,
I just want to say, you make me happy,
I never knew that you would be so beautiful to me,
I never knew that you would be so beautiful to me;
So beautiful to me...
So beautiful to me...
So beautiful to me......to me;
I'm lying here tonight,
I'm dreaming here tonight,
I dance with you tonight...

PM's National Day message 2005.(Lee Hsien Loong )
In 40 years, we have succeeded beyond all expectations. Our economy has developed and prospered. After each downturn we have bounced back, to create more jobs and a better life for all. Our society is harmonious and cohesive. We have built mutual trust between different communities, and drawn all Singaporeans closer to one another. We are attracting investments and talent from around the world, to live in a safe, clean, and dynamic city. The SAF and our Home Team are strong and tested. Because of them, we can sleep peacefully at night. We are deepening our sense of shared destiny, and maturing as a nation.
Despite many years of peace, we must remain vigilant against threats to our security. The bombings in London and in Egypt remind us that the war on terror continues, and despite the tightest precautions, the terrorists sometimes get through. We must be psychologically prepared for this, so that if they ever strike here we will be resolute and indomitable, refusing to be cowed by the terrorists and staying one united people.
This year, our economy continues to grow steadily. Growth in the first half was 4.0%. For the whole year, we can expect growth to be between 3.5% and 4.5%. We added 45,500 jobs in the first half, many more than in the same period last year. This has made it easier for displaced workers to find new jobs. Our efforts to re-design and re-create jobs for older, less-skilled workers have also helped. Looking ahead, we face a totally different world.
China and India are emerging as strong, competitive economies. Globalisation is intensifying competition and speeding up the pace of change. Faced with these common challenges, the countries of ASEAN are working more closely together. We will form an ASEAN Community by 2020. In fact, today, August 8, is ASEAN Day. Together with our ASEAN partners, we will raise awareness of ASEAN among our citizens. Greater ASEAN integration will help us to tackle these challenges and seize the opportunities before us.
Singapore’s strong fundamentals enable us to face the future with confidence. Our main priority is to grow and upgrade the economy. We need to develop new skills and capabilities, open new markets abroad, bring in investments and seed new areas of growth.
We did not start off as a financial centre, an electronics manufacturing base or an air and sea hub, but we made ourselves all these. We cannot stop here; we must continue to reinvent ourselves and build new competencies, as we are doing in bio-technology and multi-media. We must also continue growing our external wing, and seek opportunities in ASEAN, China, India and the Middle East. Then we will create new jobs, and more than make up for the old jobs that are phasing out. To achieve all these we must equip ourselves with the right skills and attitudes to thrive in the face of uncertainty and change. Hence our emphasis on a first class education system.
Every Singaporean and not just a select few must receive the best education that he is capable of. So we are investingence heavily in polytechnics and ITEs, and not just in universities. We are paying attention to Normal stream students, and not just those in the Express and Special streams. We are emphasising lifelong learning, and not just pre-employment education.
We also need to remake our city, so that it is vibrant, cosmopolitan and throbbing with energy, with our own distinctive X-factor that makes us stand out from other cities. Global cities like London, Paris, New York and Shanghai are continuously re-making themselves, so all the more must we. This is the deeper reason, beyond attracting tourists, why we are developing integrated resorts. Last month, the International Olympic Committee met in Singapore, to choose the city for the 2012 Olympic Games. Eventually London won. For a few days, under the international spotlight, Singapore played the gracious host. We did well, and must do even better on future occasions, for example next year, when the IMF and World Bank hold their meetings here. This is part of our transformation into a leading city, a first class environment for talent and enterprise, and a home for Singaporeans of all races and faiths.
Economic growth is the best social welfare programme. Prosperity provides us the resources to tackle many difficult challenges. One challenge is the widening income gap. We cannot reverse this worldwide trend, but we can help lower income Singaporeans to keep up and find new opportunities. We are training them in useful skills, re-designing their jobs to pay better, educating their children well, and helping them with their utilities and transport bills. And we have the ComCare fund, which helps the needy to get back quickly on their feet again. A second challenge is our aging population.
Singaporeans must keep active, stay healthy and work for as long as possible, so that as they age they can enjoy financial security, afford good medical care, and live more fulfilling lives. Senior citizens are valued members of our society, and we must tap their collective experience and wisdom. Third, we must continue to look after the health of all Singaporeans, young and old. I know many of you worry about your medical expenses. But our healthcare system delivers a high standard of care for all. We will strive to make healthcare services more affordable for all income groups. But you must do your part too, to look after yourself and keep fit and healthy, because staying well is the best way to keep medical costs down. These are hard issues with no quick and easy solutions. But we will learn from the experience of other countries and avoid their mistakes, and I believe that we can manage these challenges.
Looking ahead, the signs are favourable. Asia is prospering, and our neighbours in ASEAN are doing well. We are doing the right things, investing in our people and gearing up to live in a different world. I expect the next five years to be better than the last five. Therefore I am confident that working together, we will make Singapore grow and prosper beyond what we have today.
On this 40th anniversary of our independence, I wish all Singaporeans a happy National Day. Let us dedicate ourselves anew, as one united people, to securing this bright and enduring future for Singapore.

Shuttle landed safely
The shuttle made a night landing at the runway north of Los Angeles.
"We're happy to be back and we congratulate the whole team for a job well done," Discovery's commander Eileen Collins told mission controllers after the shuttle touched down.
Nasa officials cheered and clapped as the Commander Collins made a perfect landing on runway 22 at Edwards Air Force Base about 54 minutes before dawn.
The shuttle touched down at around 322km/h (200mph), deploying parachutes to slow it down after making a 196-degree turn to align itself with the landing strip.
Its steep trajectory took it over the Pacific Ocean and just north of Los Angeles.
Thx to BBC.. I could see all the journey from the launching to landing...
LKY - Father of Singapore .Memories..
Some of the excerpts taken from NUS...If any one read all these then no doubt he can understand how Singapore became a developed nation with in such a short span of time..Just about 20 years time the GDP increased many times n the PPP of the people reached the top ten nations world wide..
The below text is just taken "as it is" from NUS web site..My sincere thanks to them who put lot of effort to gather the information and to built the site..
Lee Kuan Yews's memoirs, which point out that the years of the Japanese occupation of Singapore played a major role in his conceptions of human nature and his political philosophy, relate several first-hand experiences of the conqueror's brutality. As he explains, his own first "encounter with a Japanese soldier" occurred when he tried to cross a bridge to visit his mother's younger sister
As I approached the bridge, I saw a sentry pacing up and down it. Nearby was a group of four or five Japanese soldiers sitting around, probably the other members of his detail. I was sporting a broad-brimmed hat of the kind worn by Australian soldiers, many of which had been discarded in the days before the surrender. I had picked one up, thinking it would be useful during the hard times ahead to protect me from the sun. . . . One soldier barked "Kore, kore!" and beckoned to me. When I reached him, he thrust the bayonet on his rifle through the brim of my hat, knocking it off, slapped me roundly, and motioned me to kneel. He then shoved his right boot against my chest and sent me sprawling on the road. As I got up, he signalled that I was to go back the way I had come. I had got off lightly. Many others who did not know the new rules of etiquette and did not bow to Japanese sentries at crossroads or bridges were made to kneel for hours in the sun, holding a heavy boulder over their heads until their arms gave way. [53-54]
Immediately after relating the incident in which he had gotten off "lightly," Lee tells that when a rickshaw puller pleaded for more money from a Japanese soldier, he "took the man's arm, put it over his right shoulder, and flung him up into the air with a judo throw. The rickshaw puller fell flat on his face. After a while, he picked himself up and staggered off between the shafts of his rickshaw. I was shocked at the heartlessness" (54). The next day, he explains, he received a lesson that explained in part how Japanese soldiers could treat civilians with such barbarity. When an officer's car drove past a sentry at the same bridge at which the young Lee had been slapped and kicked,
The sentry was slow in coming to attention to salute. The car had gone past, but its driver braked and reversed. An officer got out, walked up to the sentry and gave him three hefty slaps. Taking his right arm, he put it over his shoulder and, with the same judo throw I had seen used on the rickshaw puller, flung the soldier in the air. The sentry fell flat on his face, just as the rickshaw puller had done. This time I was less shocked. I had begun to understand that brutalisation was part of the Japanese military system, inculcated through regular beatings for minor infringements. [54]
Admitting that Japanese proved themselves fearsome fighters who in defeat handled themselves with admirable pride, Lee nonetheless concludes that their army (which had massacred at least fifty thousand unarmed Singaporeans) was guilty of unparalleled savagery: "After seeing them at close quarters, I was sure that for sheer fighting spirit, they were among the world's finest. But they also showed a meanness and viciousness towards their enemies equal to the Huns'. Genghis Khan and his hordes could not have been more merciless."
All these discussions of Japanese savagery occur, of course, in the political memoirs of a man who was to become the architect of postcolonial Singapore. In other words, they appear not just to testify to the horrors of the occupation and to Lee's luck and ingenuity in having survived it but also to explain what the future prime minister learned, among other things, about how human beings adapt to superior force and the way social structures crumble.

Krishna ..

After almost seven years the River Krishna flowing with record inflows..So beautiful and so nice to have a look at the river which made Andhra Pradesh as the rice bowl of India...After the construction of damns in upper states I guess this is the first time Krishna has floods..Ofcourse there is the sad part of it ...Due to the flood already 6 people killed..this is not because of the river but because of the district officials and the government which never takes any kind of precautionary measurements...
The Nagarjuna Sagar damn(Largest man made reservoir in India) was already flooded by Visitors. An estimated 500,000 visits on sunday itself made a popular destination these days. All the 26 crust gates were open across the damn which is 3 KM wide. Even at Vijayawada the Prakasam barrage was crowded with masses who wants to have a look at the river .
The photograph (Source:Eenadu) shows an Old farmer looking at the water @ Nagarujuna Sagar...The poor farmers have been facing a severe drought for almost five years due to the low rain fall. Hope this year the people can have atleast two crops.
Some info
- River Krishna ( often riverred as Goddes krishna veni) originates from Western Ghats near Mahabaleswar.
- Fourth largest river in India and flows 1440 KM before flowing in to the Bay of the Bengal.
- 8% of total irigational land in India is under Krishna Delta
- It flows via Maharashtra, karnataka and Andhra pradesh states.
- The damns Almatti, Narayana Pur, Sri Sailam, Nagarjuna Sagar, Prakasam barrage are the major damns across the river.

The Manhattan Project, or more formally, the Manhattan Engineering District, was an effort during World War II to develop the first nuclear weapons by the United States with assistance from the United Kingdom and Canada. Its research was directed by American physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer, and overall by General Leslie R. Groves after it became clear that a weapon based on nuclear fission was possible and that Nazi Germany was also investigating such weapons of its own.
The project focused on the development of fissile material to power the nuclear chain reactions which took place inside the weapons, and the design of the weapons themselves at the top-secret Los Alamos laboratory in New Mexico.
From January 1944 to July 1945, the large-scale production plants were set in operation, and the fissile material thus produced was used to determine the features of the weapons
Planning for the test itself was assigned to Kenneth Bainbridge, a professor of physics at Harvard University, working under explosives expert George Kistiakowsky.
(The photo is one of the few n rare color photographs of Trinity explosion)
I am intentionally skipping some of the preparations and the reasons behind selecting the test place etc...(all the info can be found at www.wikipedia.org)
The explosion took place at 05:29:45 local time, with an yiled of 19 kilotons of TNT.
It left a crater in the desert 3 metres deep and 330 metres wide. At the time of detonation, the surrounding mountains were illuminated brighter than daytime for one to two seconds, and the heat was reported as being as hot as an oven at the base camp. The observed colors of the illumination ranged from purple, to green, and eventually to white. The roar of the shock wave took 40 seconds to reach the observersHer93. The shock wave was felt over 160 km away, and the mushroom cloud reached 12 km.
As Los Alamos director J. Robert Oppenheimer watched the demonstration, he later said that a line from the Hindu scripture, the Bhagavad Gita, came to mind:
I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds"
A more common translation of the passage, from Arthur Ryder (from whom Oppenheimer studied Sanskrit at UC Berkeley in the 1930s), is:
"Death am I, and my present task Destruction."

Happy birthday singapore

This year marks 40 years of nation building in the history of Singapore as a sovereign nation. National Day Parade 2005 promises to be a national event that will engage all fellow Singaporeans to celebrate our 40 years of nation building together. To add to the significance of the occasion, this year’s National Day Parade will be held at the historic and nostalgic location of Padang, where we held our very first National Day Parade in 1966.
Centered on the theme, "40 YEARS OF NATION BUILDING", NDP 05 aims to bring pride and patriotism to all Singaporeans as we reflect upon our last 40 years of nation building and achievements, and pay tribute to the unyielding commitment and determination of elder generations who brought us to where we are today. At the same time, we will also be celebrating the vitality and dynamism of our younger generation who continue to strive hard to build a better life, better home and better future for Singapore.

What governer did to stop the heavy rains...
And what did governor S M Krishna do?
Well, he tried divine intervention.
When all else failed last week, Krishna, unable to bear the rain dance of death and devastation, turned to a power he had immense faith in—Lord Bharatha, nestled in his 8th century temple abode of Koodalmanickyam in Guruvayoor, Kerala.
The Harvard-educated Krishna called up K C Venugopal, Kerala’s minister for temple administration, on July 29 and requested him to perform a special puja at the Jain temple to stop the rains that were playing havoc with Maharashtra.
Venugopal, when contacted, confirmed to TOI that he had instructed the temple authorities to do the puja. “The prasadam of the puja was sent to Krishna the very next day,’’ he said. “The rituals cost Rs 175. Of course, I will take the money from Krishna—it’s necessary for the puja to be effective for Maharashtra.’’
This particular puja—in which the idol is garlanded with 101 lotuses, is normally offered to stop rains and bad weather, and ensure the smooth running of all auspicious functions. “It’s a routine affair before any holy or special ceremony,’’ said Venugopal. During the marriage season, the temple is flooded with requests for this puja to prevent rains during a wedding.

Pune, India
definitely those were the days when we worked hard enough to stay ahead in the competition..We worked hard, n had fun at the same levels..Now if I have any regrets that's only one..I haven't had a camera that time..(Lemme confess..I had one but its not digital which made me so stringent not to spend any money on pics)...Really a big mistake I can say...
But one thing ..Even there is no photograph the real and live memories are there afresh in my mind and heart...I just can visualize the every moment I spent with all the people close to my heart..
Srilu, shinde saab, tanveer, santi, vikram, gayatri, samba n all the labour team...Thanks a lot for making my life so beautiful and pleasant..You guys changed my life..Really I learnt lot many lessons from you all...The love you shown on me or even the small small arguments we had ..everything was simply memorable...Love you all ....and my best wishes will be with you always....may be today we are not together n miles apart physically..But when ever I see somthing sensual i remember you dear..tanveer, you made me laugh many times with your witty comments...the humourous comments were simply awesome...n shinde saab i cant say anything about you...you have got a very very special place in my diary..
One day I wanna meet you all again and want to have a good time...wish to have that day very soon...anyway a bit of caution here..will be carrying tons of things to share with ye all...am sure you are gonna kick me out of the place that time...LoL..take care friends...really miss you...
Ayesha Takia
Young, chirpy, excited looking, Ayesha Takai made her debut film in south with "Super". Nagarjuna is the hero and there is another gal Anouskha Shetty as well..Anyway the movie is a different case altogether..Although I liked the movie much but its more coz Nagarjuna stylish looks n his hairstyle..Coming to the point, this gal really took my attention quite a bit when I saw the "shake it daddy"..Then all of a sudden I heard she is gonna play with sharukh Khan in "Mai Hoon na"..But replaced by Kareena ..Later came back with Tarzaan - the wonder car ..Anyway its a flop as well...I guess there are couple of movies in Bollywood after that..
Recently I saw her interview in one of the news paper...some excerpts...
My day starts at 6 AM. I love coffee and that is how I usually start my day. Before the end of the day, I would have consumed atleast 7 cups of coffee.
For breakfast Often, I have Moong Dal and milk. Sometimes, I have idli, dosa and some fruits. Sometimes, I also have sprouts for breakfast.
For lunch I usually bring my food with me to the sets. My usual lunch is mixed vegetables and fruits. These days, I have started eating mushroom salads and some yogurt. There are also lot of nuts and raw salads.
For the past three years, I have been a vegetarian. My family eats non-vegetarian food, though. I have become a member of PETA (People for Ethical Treatment of Animals).
For the past four years, I haven't eaten bread, chappatis or even rice. I don't even remember what they taste like.
I love chocolates. I just can't keep my hands off them. They are my biggest weakness. I love gulab jamoons and carrot halwas.
My favorite restaurant in Mumbai is '_Mocha'. Sometimes, to simply try something different, I would also frequent JW Marriot. These days, since I'm busy with Telugu films, I spend most of my time in Hyderabad. In Hyderabad, my favorite restaurant is 'The Touch', owned by Nagarjuna. The place is very peaceful and they play the music at a very low volume.
I take lot of care for my body. I spend atleast half an hour a day on exercising. I follow a mixed routine of aerobics and Yoga. I also practice pranayama. You don't have any rights to be in films if you don't stay active and healthy.
I am sure takia babe will sure stay for some time ..Looking at the responce she is getting no doubt she likes to stay in Hyd for a while. Anyway this is the place where people will give millions of rupees just because you are from Bollywood..;) (Ofcourse ye shall not say NO to skin show)
Monad. Removed from VISTA
Monad will not be included in the final version of Windows Vista and there is no relation between Monad and Windows Vista Beta 1. Monad is being considered for the Windows Operating System platform for the next three to five years. So these potential viruses do not affect Windows Vista or any other version of Windows if “Monad” has not been installed on the system

Infosys to expand in CHINA
The Indian software company will set up development centers in Shanghai and Hangzhou through deals with Shanghai Zhangjiang and the Administrative Commission of the High-Tech Development Industry Zone-Hangzhou, the company said.
The Bangalore-based firm will invest US$65 million over five years in these centers and hire 6,000 engineers. It currently has 250 workers in China. Work in the new centers will focus on software development, IT services and IT-enabled services. The facilities will also accommodate training and research, the company said. The projects are slated to start by early next year.
In global information services markets, India and China are increasingly seen as rivals, although India has an edge with its English-speaking technical work force. Leading Indian companies such as Infosys and Tata Consultancy Services are expanding operations in China to capitalize on the growing presence of Western companies--whom they serve already--in the Chinese market.

Microsoft VISTA not launched yet..but the virus writers have launched their viruses already...
A virus writer has published the first examples of malicious code that targets Microsoft's upcoming command-line shell, code-named Monad, according to Finnish antivirus maker F-Secure. If the technology is included in Windows Vista, these could be one of the first viruses to target the new operating system formerly known as Longhorn, F-Secure said Thursday.
Monad, also known as MSH, is the replacement for the simple command shell in the current versions of Windows. A shell, also called a command line interface, allows a user to give a computer textual commands either from a keyboard or from a script. Monad has much more functionality, similar to shells in competing products such as Bash in Unix. However, by adding the ability to run more-complex scripts, Microsoft could possibly open another door to attackers.
Monad will support Windows Server 2003, Windows XP and Windows Vista, Microsoft representatives said in a Web chat late last year. However, the software maker has not disclosed how it will deliver the tool.

NTU - blind date
However, it is not known whether the participants were allowed to adjourn to the hostels to, ahem, get to know each other better. This is because NTU Hall rules state that students must leave the door and window blinds open if a member of the opposite sex is in the room. Also, no member of the opposite sex is allowed to stay beyond 11.00 p.m.
According to their Social Affairs Office, these draconian rules are there "to help prevent situations of students being taken advantage of."
All that mass dating and no one allowed to get laid.

A guide to stress management
- I can only please one person per day. Today is not your day. Tomorrow is not looking good either.
- I love deadlines. I especially like the whooshing sound they make as they go flying by.
- Tell me what you need, and I'll tell you how to get along without it.
- Accept that some days you are the pigeon and some days the statue.
- Needing someone is like needing a parachute. If they aren't there the first time, chances are you won't be needing them again.
- I don't have an attitude problem, you have a perception problem.
- Last night I lay in bed looking up at the stars in the sky, and I thought to myself, where the heck is the ceiling?
- My reality check bounced.
- On the keyboard of life, always keep one finger on the escape key.
- I don't suffer from stress. I am a carrier.
- You are slower than a herd of turtles stampeding through peanut butter.
- Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, because you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup.
- Everybody is somebody else's weirdo.
- Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level, then beat you with experience.
- A pat on the back is only a few centimeters from a kick in the butt.
- Don't be irreplaceable - if you can't be replaced, you can't be promoted.
- After any salary raise, you will have less money at the end of the month than you did before.
- The more crap you put up with, the more crap you are going to get.
- You can go anywhere you want if you look serious and carry clipboard.
- Eat one live toad the first thing in the morning and nothing worse will happen to you the rest of the day.
- People who go to conferences are the ones who shouldn't.
- If it wasn't for the last minute, nothing would get done.
- When you don't know what to do, walk fast and look worried.
- Following the rules will not get the job done.
- When confronted by a difficult problem, you can solve it more easily by reducing it to the question, "How would the Lone Ranger handle this?
Medishield and Sons-in law
"A 92-year-old man walked into a Tanjong Pagar doctor's clinic on Wednesday night to seek treatment for a common cold and fever. The visit cost him $64.
Citing this example, his son-in-law, a well-heeled doctorate holder, complained to the Health Minister last night that medical costs were getting "too unaffordable", especially for people well beyond the insurable age like his father-in-law.
The minister's response: "His insurance is that he has a good son-in-law".
Khaw Boon Wan adds: If you feel health care is important, then you must be prepared to spend a certain percentage of your income, say 10 percent, on it.. You can't say healthcare is important but please could the Government pay for it."

Patch 'em up, or risk damaging the network - Security - News - ZDNet Asia
Through out my experience I have seen many people who updates the patches only after they face an unplanned outage...the cost of the proactive management is so high for them they decided to absorb the affected service...for example last year CISCO issued more than 2000 patches on the range of routers such as 3700,7200 series and switches...
Added with Microsoft this figure will zooms to few thousand.....

Top 10 Reasons to Work at Google
There are many other reasons to work for google...but what Google claims as the top 10 reasons are,
- Lend a helping hand. With millions of visitors every month, Google has become an essential part of everyday life—like a good friend—connecting people with the information they need to live great lives.
- Life is beautiful. Being a part of something that matters and working on products in which you can believe is remarkably fulfilling.
- Appreciation is the best motivation, so we've created a fun and inspiring workspace you'll be glad to be a part of, including on-site doctor and dentist; massage and yoga; professional development opportunities; on-site day care; shoreline running trails; and plenty of snacks to get you through the day.
- Work and play are not mutually exclusive. It is possible to code and pass the puck at the same time.

The Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool enables you to verify that your copy of Microsoft Windows is genuine.
